What to do after my chemical peel?

At Experience Dermatology, to ensure you have the best possible peeling experience, we recommend following these suggested guidelines.

  • Your skin can be more sensitive to the sun post-peel. We recommend a tinter, mineral SPF of at least 30, even on cloudy days, to protect your fresh, new skin from harmful UV rays. Reapplying throughout the day is also extremely important.

  • High temperatures can irritate your skin post-peel. Avoid activities that induce heavy sweating, like vigorous exercise, hot baths, or saunas for at least 48 hours after the procedure.

    Avoid direct sun exposure as much as possible, but general daily activities, as long as you wear your sunscreen.

  • As your skin begins to peel, resist the temptation to pick or scrub at it. This could cause scarring or discoloration. Allow the skin to shed naturally for the best results.

  • Following a chemical peel, your skin may feel tight and dry. It's essential to keep your skin hydrated. Use a rich, nourishing moisturizer recommended by your aesthetician to replenish your skin's moisture levels.

  • Use a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser to wash your face. Harsh products can irritate your sensitive skin post-peel. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry gently.
